Mr Riddell has worked as a lawyer for nearly 5 years. This includes:

– State Prosecutor at NSW Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions at Sydney Head Office (Murder, Sexual Assault, Drugs)

– Legal Officer at NSW Health (opposing Appeals in NCAT by Doctors, Dentists, Nurses)

– Lawyer at various regional firms in NSW (conveyancing, hearings, advice)

Whilst working at NSW ODPP Mr Riddell instructed the Deputy Senior Crown Prosecutor in a 5 week NSW Supreme Court Homicide Trial securing a Manslaughter conviction.

Mr Riddell also instructed in a 5-week Historical Sexual Assault Special Hearing. A Special Hearing is where the defendant has been found to been unfit to stand trial due to a mental health or cognitive impairment. The Judge found that the offences were proven on the limited evidence available.

Mr Riddell appeared in numerous Local Court Sentences, Bail Applications, and District Court Appeals, and has prepared hundreds of Supreme Court Bail Applications.

Ranald also maintains contact with Non Salaried Crown Prosecutors (Sydney based) who are able to be briefed in matters and eager to expand their reach to the NSW South Coast.

Mr Riddell provided advice to the NSW Health Councils including the Medical Council, Dental Council, Nursing and Midwifery Council. Ranald assisted in writing submissions to NSW Government regarding legislative changes.

Ranald has also prepared and instructed Appeals in NCAT. These were Appeals by Health Professionals (Doctors, Nurses, Psychologists) who argued they had unfairly received a restriction or suspension of their practicing certificate

Mr Riddell grew up and attended schooling in the Bega Valley.  Upon completing school Mr Riddell worked as a Bega Cheese Production line employee, and subsequently attended University of Wollongong to complete a Bachelor of Laws / Bachelor of Commerce.  He then attended ANU to complete a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice, which included both internship and practical legal training in Bega and Eden.
